PNE.UMA is a masterclass and music education project dedicated to the accordion, with a focus on the contemporaneity and the areas of research within which this instrument is placed.
The project comes from the need to create a space where accordionists from all over the world can meet under the guidance of a renowned Teacher to work on a concert project together. Participants, therefore, will not only be called upon as students, but will follow the planning and all curatorial aspects for the realization of the concert.
The Teacher and Concert Artist, on the other hand, will be tasked with creating a performance that involves the participating musicians. Everything from the audience arrangement to the staging of the concert will be the result of collaboration and teamwork.
The PNE.UMA masterclass will be held in collaboration with the prestigious accordion brand Pigini Accordions, which will provide factory space for the final concert.
The masterclass will last a total of five days and will be hosted by the city of Castelfidardo, becoming an opportunity for the participating musicians to experience the "City of Accordions." The residency days will be hosted in the recording studio of the record label NÜGO - Records and food will be provided by the organization, to give the opportunity to create moments of community and learning even outside the studio spaces.
The Guest Teacher of the first edition of PNE.UMA will be Claudio Jacomucci, and in collaboration with the Pigini Accordions company and the NUGO - Records label, two concerts by internationally renowned accordionists will be hosted on those days.
The First Edition of PNE.UMA will focus on the figure of American composer and accordionist Pauline Oliveros (1932 - 2016).
"Pauline Oliveros has been among the most prolific music composers of our time. A pivotal figure in avant-garde music after World War II, she counts a long list of professional attributes, a reason why, as she herself points out, it is not possible to assign her either a canon or a category. She has been a musician, theorist, author, researcher, teacher and LGBTQIA+ activist. Such multifacetedness is reflected in a thought that is devoid of contradictions and yet accommodates the - seemingly - distant themes of electronic music and meditation. Her name is linked to the theory of Deep Listening: it is "a practice that combines feminist and queer thought, a hacker approach to any instrument capable of emitting sound, and a libertarian method in sharing it."
